QLD State Titles - SCORC
Mooloolah - 12th-15th June, 2008

SCORC managed to succesfully host the biggest Off-Road RC event so far this year in Australia. Their track layout included the most impressive jumps we have seen during our travels, and the atmospehere was alive and friendly. Not to mention the old saying of "Beautiful one day, Perfect the next..." rang true for the duration of our stay, we are well aware of how much rain the track had endured, and appreciate all the efforts of the SCORC club members to keep the track in one piece.

Practice day showed just how much water the track had absorbed, the drivers that chose to run tried to avoid any chance of falls as the in-fields were a sodden mud pie that happily swallowed many marshalls shoes & boots, leaving them hopping aorund in soggy socks. Unfortunately, the track acted like a sponge and held onto its moisture for the duration of the event, which made tyre choice an extremely difficult decision in all classes.

We all showed up for the early start on Thursday morning, with the drivers meeting leaving no questions unanswered and a fantastic concourse line-up of over 180 cars and trucks. Admittedly, we were a bit disspointed with the line-up of the race schedule, which we found a tad biased towards the buggy drivers, but as most dedicated Truggy driver's in Australia know - it is to be expected...

The racing itself was a joy to watch, as the number of non-racing spectators showed. To have the majority of the biggest names in the country racing in the A-Main (both Buggy & Truggy), and even the Stadium & Monster Trucks had a good showing, and I won't mention a questionable hybrid Monster-Truggy thingy...

Buggy was an extremely close final... the top 3 all finishing on a total of 59 Laps within 30seconds of eachother, it was a battle not to be missed between all of the finalists, with Matt Griffin giving Martin Wolhuter a run for his money until Matt ran into a patch of bad luck. It was Martin Wolhuter who crossed the line in 1st place, 2nd went to Wayne Walker, and 3rd to Justin Millan.

Truggy was just as star studded, with an amazing battle for 3rd place between John Bateman and Mick Dahl. Zac Ryan took 1st, Justin Millan - 2nd, and Mick Dahl took it home for 3rd.

Stadium Truck ave it's podium positions to Bradley Young in 1st, Ron Maya in 2nd and Scott Blackford in 3rd.

The QLD MT results are at the heart of some major discussions at the moment, but the official results leave 1st place to Tony Nettleton, 2nd to Mike MacPherson and 3rd to Laura Anderson.

When all was said & done, it was a fantastic event, fantastic racing, fantastic people & a long trip home...

Please see the QLD Galleries for a selection of photo's we took of this event, we have an extremely large archive of QLD photo's, (amongst other events) and these are just a small selection.
